And so, “the guitarist of New Orleans” * Danny Abel heads home to the Upper Valley to visit his parents . . . A former resident of Lebanon NH during his youth, Danny thought this visit would be a good opportunity to meet some Upper Valley musicians:
“So I contacted David Newsam (my former teacher who used to work at Dartmouth and also teaches at Berklee and UNH) and he was interested. I reached out to Sawtooth Kitchen and they got back to me quickly and then I managed to pull together a great band. I got Nate Edgar on bass, he plays with the Nth Power and John Brown's Body, amongst a ton of other projects, and got PJ Donahue, who's an Upper Valley based drummer.” —Danny Abel
And voila, a performance with “a mix of jazz standards . . .and some funkier stuff/New Orleans style music” is coming to Sawtooth Kitchen on Thursday, June 19 at 7:00 p.m. in downtown Hanover NH.
Danny Abel has been playing guitar professionally in New Orleans since 2006, to accolades from all quarters. He has performed with “just about everybody in New Orleans,” scoring a Grammy nomination when touring with Tank and the Bangas. He plays in his own eponymous band, as part of GuitArmy (a collective of New Orleans guitarists that performs worldwide), and with BrasiNola, a New Orleans-styled Brazilian funk band. In addition, he co-founded Brown Hound Sounds, a music production team that specializes in custom scores and soundtracks for television, film and advertising.
More info on Danny and his music can be found on his website. For tickets to the Sawtooth performance (limited seating) on June 19, click here.
