And a Brass Band Shall Lead Them To AVA: Upper Valley Music Center Turns 30
And, the Hood wants your memories.
When is the last time you had occasion to step, march, or maybe even dance behind a brass band?
The big news is that the Upper Valley Music Center is celebrating its 30th with a great birthday bash concert at Lebanon Opera House on Sunday, March 16 at 4:00 pm. (Tickets, including a pay-what-you-can option, are available here.) The program will feature musical performances by UVMC's amazing faculty, as well as an orchestra and chorus, a world premier, and some special announcements.
To my mind, however, there is even bigger news, and it’s a detail that caught my eye and captured my heart when the email from UVMC flew in over my digital transom: “Everyone is invited to continue the fun at the afterparty at AVA Gallery -- and there will even be a brass band to lead the way!”
I confirmed. It’s for real. Who can resist?
The arts have deep roots in the Upper Valley, as is evident by double-digit birthdays of so many arts institutions. In addition to UVMC’s 30th birthday, AVA Gallery, where that brass band—and the rest of us—will eventually land, is now 52 years old.
Which brings me to the Hood Museum, celebrating its 40th birthday. Here is an invitation to reminisce. Click here to submit your story, photo, best memory.)
In celebration of our 40th anniversary year, we want to collect and honor the memories of all who have enjoyed the Hood Museum of Art throughout the decades.
We invite you to share a memory of your experience at the Hood Museum of Art – a video, picture, voice memo, written quote, or all of the above!
Select stories will be shared on the museum's social media, website, and marketing materials. Only first names and city/town(if provided) will be published.
