New Chapters: SoRo’s Underpass, Randolph’s Art, etc.
Art, etc., now a local artisan craft store with two dedicated art galleries, has moved from its original location in Northfield to Randolph, Vermont. You are invited to its building-wide Grand Opening Party at 26 North Main St, next Friday September 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. The gallery itself will host an opening reception for September Artists Peggy Watson and Roarke Sharlow. Gallery owner Andrea Melville says: “Drop by to see the new exhibits and meet the artists. Light refreshments will be served and enjoy live music from Jennings & McComber.”
The new location for the gallery is a recently restored 1880s building. The Grand Opening and artists’ reception coincide with First Fridays Randolph, with other activities within walking distance. This may be your opportunity to try out the James Beard Award-winning Saap Restaurant or another of Randolph’s fine eateries.
And . . . a new chapter in the tunnel saga, SoRo-style:
If you are a regular reader of Artful, you know that the new tunnel in Lebanon NH consumed much of my waking thought and coverage over the past years, so much so that when an Artful reader came for a 24-hour visit from New York City, she made a beeline to it to see it for herself.
Now it is South Royalton’s turn. Unlike Lebanon, this is not a new construction project. Like Lebanon, it is many square yards of surface begging for installations of public art—the kind you can take in and appreciate on your way to Worthy Burger. And the art—by three local women artists -- Elizabeth Billings, Andrea Wasserman, and Evie Lovett—is on its way.
The latest comes from SoRo Underpass Art’s Facebook Page:
“As you know, our fundraiser for this project closed on Sunday, August 21st. We not only met our goal of $8,000, we surpassed it - raising a total of $9,110. We are so thankful for the support. At present, we anticipate the installation will be able to take place around the end of September with a ribbon cutting ceremony shortly after. Stay tuned for updated information with specific dates!”
