Northern Stage Adds Additional Performances for “This Verse Business” and “Come From Away”
Northern Stage has added an additional performance of This Verse Business, on stage for a short run, October 30 through November 1, 2025.
“Praised as ‘a seamless piece of theatre… with authentic New England wit and charm’ by Broadway World, This Verse Business, starring the Emmy and IRNE Award-winning Gordon Clapp, is “a must-see” that will return to Northern Stage!
In this one-man show, Clapp will play poet Robert Frost, who “barded” around the country for nearly 50 years giving sold-out talks to mixed crowds of poetry readers and non-readers alike. Arguably the nation’s first superstar poet, he quipped, “What began in obscurity is ending in a blaze of publicity.”” —Northern Stage
Clapp too has been “barding around” in his role as Frost in This Verse Business, including a prior production at Northern Stage in 2017. I saw that performance and will never forget Clapp’s reading of Frost’s poem, “The Death of the Hired Man.”
Robert Frost was and is an internationally known poet but it feels as he particularly belongs to us, New Englanders, and more so, to those of us for whom the Upper Valley is home. Frost enrolled at Dartmouth College in 1892 and left soon thereafter; he was awarded an honorary degree more than fifty years later in 1951. From 1943 to 1949 he taught as a Ticknor Fellow at Dartmouth, and just last year, in 2024, the College celebrated Frost’s 150th birthday. Thanks to the Class of 1961, a statue of Robert Frost by George Lundeen was erected on campus behind Bartlett Tower. (See photo, just below).
Meanwhile, the season’s inaugural production at Northern Stage, Come from Away, (reviewed here on Artful), continues packing in the patrons for good reason, with many shows sold out. An additional performance has been added on Sunday, October 26 at noon. You will want to act quickly to purchase tickets on the Northern Stage website or by calling the Box Office.
